The discourse analysis on higher educational institutions’training objective in The People’s Republic of China (P.R.C.) is a study, which analyzes the issues of training objective of P.R.C.’s higher educational institutions by using the method of discourse analysis. Combing the linguistic analysis and social theory, discourse analysis refers to a research paradigm that usually includes text analysis, discourse practice and social practice. The reason for this study adopts this research paradigm primarily to reveal higher educational institutions’nature, significance and characteristics in P.R.C. from the perspective of training objective’s text itself. This thesis consists of five parts:The first section describes the background and the present research situation of China’s higher educational institutions since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Most of the research, concerning the training objective of P.R.C.’s higher educational institutions, explored its phenomena and problems in the field of education, while less focused on other areas, such as sociology, linguistics etc.The second part of document discusses the discourse system of training objective in P.R.C.’s higher educational institutions. This part mainly points out that, as a specific type of discourse practice, training objective of higher educational institutions is an integral system, which consists of several basic elements. In generally, it includes three aspects: the discourse subject, the policy text and the context.The third part analyzes both the formation conditions and the foundation of higher educational institutions’training objective. In fact, the emergence of discourse, in whatever the forms, is neither accidental nor inevitable. It is the result of synergies of discourse practice and social practice, which topically embodied in the following aspects:the object of the discourse, the style of the statement and the choices of discourse concepts and topics.The fourth part reveals the general characteristics of training objective in P.R.C.’s higher educational institutions. Although as a specific type of discourse, it has the basic features of general discourse practices, such as social, dependent and constructive. All of them reflect the significance of the training objective, which used as the discourse practice in the social practice.The fifth part prospects the trend of the training objective. Actually, it keeps evolving all the time. Sometimes, it is even discontinuous and fragmentary. Compared with the beginning of P.R.C., the present discourse of higher educational institutions’training objective has indicated the future trends:structure’s diversification, body’s democratization, and the relative balance of the power between various relationships, as well the form’s localization.
