Higher institutes in china have increased enrollment since90s of20th century and higher education has entered into popular education stage from elite education stage with quantity of higher institutes, types and students enrollment increasing more. But most of higher institutes didn’t realize the role and orientation they should play during the macroscopic transformation process. Training objective of higher institutes is deficient, misplaced or ambiguous. The problems with training objective can cause further failure in knowledge and wisdom achievement of students. This paper checked the current issues and training objective orientation of each layer and type of higher education based on theory views of knowledge classification and wisdom pursuit.Based on the work of other scholars, the paper used theory of knowledge type and wisdom pursuit to evaluate academic talents, applied talents and skilled talents corresponding to research university, teaching-research universities&teaching universities and advanced training colleges. The paper interprets knowledge and wisdom in the training objectives and deeps its’internal values. Based on the theory of knowledge types and wisdom pursuit and combining the current situation of higher education, the paper takes the higher education training objectives as the foothold. This paper attempts to review and reconstruct the training objectives of each type of higher institutes.The paper mainly concludes three parts:the first part emphasizes knowledge classification theories and relationship between knowledge and wisdom and highlights their values and meanings to training objectives. This part mainly introduced knowledge classification of Aristotle, J. R. Anderson’s knowledge classification method and Polanyi’s personal knowledge and stating the values of theories to training objectives. The second part is based on the theory of knowledge classification, wisdom pursuit, aiming at evaluating and reviewing training objectives deficiency in knowledge and wisdom of four different types of higher institutes. The third part is based on the theory of knowledge classification, wisdom pursuit, aiming at giving suggestion for training objectives of four different types of higher institutes, trying to change the current problems and attempting to reconstruct the training objectives according to academic logic and real circumstances.
