James Yen’s Mass Education And Its Impact On Migrant Workers Ideological Education

Modern China reform, which is focus on urban area, but not on peasants andrural area, makes the quality of peasants become the short board of “Cask Effect” insocial development; so how to promote the migrant-workers by using educationalmeans, should be our major task. Yan Yangchu’s theory on Mass Education is animportant reference to train modern peasants.Nowadays, great socio-economic institutional changes trigger a new urbanizationin China: millions of migrant workers swarm into cities to be the major labor ineconomic development and urban construction. The migrant-workers’ educationallevel and quality shall be the decisive cause of success of social reform andmigrant-workers’ own benefits to become richer. The current value of Yan YangchuRural Education Movement concentrating on Mass Education remains an importantinstruction in migrant-worker training.As a worldwide education ideologist, Yan Yangchu’s education ideology containsMass Education and Rural Construction. As to the four weaknesses(fool, poverty,fragility, selfishness) of Chinese peasants, Yan Yangchu advocates four types ofeducation: to save fool with art, to save poverty with economy, to save fragility withhygiene, to save selfishness with civilization; and he suggests three kinds of measuresto enact the four types of education, that is, school-education, society-education andfamily-education.Combining with current Chinese situation and Yan Yangchu’s educationalthoughts, the rural education and migrant-workers’ job training should stick to theroad of agricultral modernization, build modern new peasants, concern on peasants’life and provide peasants’ education; based on national conditions, adhere to theroad with Chinese characteristics; emphasize on the development of rural educationallevel and spread the rural education; Furthermore, we should authenticate to theforeign experience of rural construction, elaborate the governmental guidance,develop agricultural basic situation, promote modern agricultural scientifictechnology, emphasize on peasants education and training, emphasize on basicequipment.
