Implemented environmental education in geography teaching is one of the most effective ways of carrying out environmental education in senior high schools. Although a general recognition to the importance of environmental education, there are many problems with its current situation, because the implementation of the New Curriculum is not so long. There are some similarities and differences in rural and urban middle school’s environmental education. This article discussed the differences between them and how to solve the problems of the current situation by methods of literature investigating, questionnaire survey and comparative. In other words, this article explained the definition of environmental education, summarized the development of environmental education at home and abroad in recent years, explored the advantages, goal and principle of environmental education in geography teaching at high school. It also discussed the differences and problems of environmental education for rural and urban high schools and its reason and solutions basing on their existing conditions findings and compares, in order to optimize the current situation of the middle school’s environmental education and promote its effective implementation.
