Objective:This paper was to explore the relationship between college students’ alexithymia, life event and family function. The objects mainly included:(1)To survey the characteristics of life events, family functioning and alexithymia of college students;(2)To study the relationship between college students’alexithymia, life event and family function, and to explore the mediating model.Methods:581college students from Cheng Du city had been selected to complete the corresponding questionnaires, including the TAS-20-C, FACES Ⅱ-CV and ASLEC, which measured subjects’ family cohesion, family adaptability, alexithymia index and stress status over the last twelve months. Results:Independent samples t test indicated that the significant differences were between the only child and non-only child on ASLEC, FACES Ⅱ-CV and TAS-20-C (P<0.01). Pearson correlations revealed the score of life event and each dimension were significantly positive relation with the total score of TAS-20-C (P<0.01). Hierarchical regression revealed that explained variance of life event for alexithymia increased significantly, in the case of controlling the only child; increments of R2were significant. Correlation analysis indicated the total score of alexithymia was significantly relation with family function and life event. Path analysis revealed cohesion had negatively a predicting effect on alexithymia; family function played a partial mediating role between life event and alexithymia.Conclusions:(1)Whether the one-child was statistically significant for alexithymia (P<0.01).(2)College students’ alexithymia was significantly correlated with life event and family function. Life event was significantly positive relation with alexithymia. Family function was negatively correlated with life event and alexithymia.(3)Life event not only had direct impact on alexithymia, but also was partially mediated by the family function.
