Abstract:In2001, the author of this essay designed the School Adaptation Questionnaire, which is within the understanding of elementary school children. Then,164elementary school children of grade three in Long Quanyi District, Chengdu City are chosen as research sample. The aim of this research is to analyze the school adaptation of these childrenThe questionnaire reflects school adaptation from the following five aspects: learning adaptation, teacher-student relationship, peer relationship, emotional adaptation and behavior problems. Learning adaptation focuses on learning effect, learning method, attitude to learning and learning surroundings. Teacher-student relationship tries to find out degree of satisfaction, intimacy, contention, sustainability between teachers and students. Peer relationship is to know the intimacy and homogeneity of such peer relationship, and to know who hold leader position in the peer group. Emotional adaptation is to see if migrating children have serious emotional problems such as anxiety, dumps, unsociability etc. Behavior problems concern about offensive, rebellious and undisciplined behaviors.The research reveals the current situation of school adaptation of migrating children, and how such adaptation differs from that of the local children. After further comprehension, the author finds out the problems of migrating children and the roots for these problems. The findings in this essay helps the teaching staff understand their students and can be foundation for enacting and improving related policies. Only by comprehensive understanding of the current situation of school adaptation, can we promote the school adaptation of migrating children. Moreover, proper school adaptation is indispensable for the integrated development of migrating children.
