"In a one-hundred year strategy of a nation, education is the most important base." Therefore, the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China has always attached great importance to education. Secondary Vocational Education plays a very important part of the whole education in China and its development in recent years is highly concerned about, so it has developed better than ever before. English, as a compulsory course, gradually shows its importance. Because of many reasons, the present English teaching in secondary vocational schools lags behind and it can’t meet the basic requirements of the new talents in new situation. How to change the present situation and improve the English teaching quality has become an emergent issue to research and resolve.In recent20years, Communicative Approach has been one of the most popular approaches in our country, so many scholars and educators contribute to the study of CA. However, we can see a lot research materials on CA happened in junior high schools, senior high schools and universities. There are few researches on CA in secondary vocational schools. In fact, the core of CA is to cultivate communicative competence. Students in a communicative class will get more opportunities to use language in a communicative environment, they will be the center of the class and they will be the leading role of communicative activities. All above happen to coincide with the English teaching principle "Priority of Practice, and Limitation of Plenty" and the English teaching characteristics "Professionalism and Practicality" in Secondary Vocational Schools.The thesis is based on Communicative theories. CA as a way to study English is also fit for applying in Secondary Vocational Schools. As a teacher of a Secondary Vocational School, the author made great effort to set about making a study about CA to make a due contribution on changing the current situation and improving the English teaching quality in Secondary Vocational School. With Questionnaires, case study, data analysis and interviews in the paper, the investigation of Xinxiang Vocational Education Center focuses on the following aspects:English level of new students; students’ learning attitude and motivation; teachers’ teaching and research; the application of teaching materials and so on. In order to test whether CA is suitable for the ELT in secondary vocational schools, the writer understands present secondary vocational school’s English teaching condition through multiple perspectives.In conclusion, CA can not only cultivate the students’interest on study but also improve the students’communicative competence so it is very suitable for the English language teaching in secondary vocational schools. The last but not the least, CA is not a perfect teaching method and is not the only efficient way to improve English language teaching. In teaching practice we often draw on other reasonable and effective part of the teaching method, learn from each other and promote each other.This thesis consists of the following five parts:Introduction:Explain the background and significance of the research.Chapter One:It is necessary to adopt the communicative approach in English teaching in secondary vocational schools, which is decided by the present situation of English teaching in secondary vocational schools in China and the problems faced.Chapter Two:Literature review:Review domestic and foreign research on development of communicative approach and current research results.Chapter Three:Take852students and18teachers in Xinxiang Vocational Education Centre as the study objective and apply communicative approach in English teaching, to research whether communicative approach is fit for English teaching in secondary vocational schools.Conclusion:Communicative approach can improve students’ communicative capacity, so it is more suitable than other teaching method applied in English teaching in secondary vocational schools.
