It becomes a trend to promote research-based classroom teaching as higher education undergoes further reform in China. Classroom teaching is the key to the research-based teaching since classroom is the place in which the research-based teaching is put into practice. Research-based classroom teaching is an approach with which students use exploratory approach to initiatively acquire knowledge and use knowledge to solve problems under teacher’s instruction. This teaching approach puts emphasis on learning process. In the teaching process, questions are set up and research-based, varied situations in which students aren’t aware of the content and laws are created in order to stimulate students’interest. Students are encouraged to initiatively bring forward questions, do research on their own, find laws, acquire knowledge, carry out various experiments, learn methods of how to collect, analyze information and solve problems, and develop creativity and ability of coping with sharply changing situations. This is the pith of research-based classroom teaching. This paper analyzes the current status and theories of research-based classroom teaching at home and abroad.
