With the development and popularization of the internet, the third generation of distance education has made remarkable effect with the electronic communication technology and computer technology as the foundation and two-way communication as the marked features. Though the internet serve the adult learners large amount of information resources and become the significant method in lifelong learning, the internet learning requires the dependent studying and metacognitive ability of the learners due to most of adult learners distinguish much from each other for two reasons, the learners are engaged in the work while studying and the teaching separation characteristics of the distance education. Therefore, to explore the adult learners’metacognitive ability under the network environment deepen and develop the metacognitive theory in the abstract, meanwhile it helps to find the ways for improving the adult learners’learning ability practically.This paper concludes four parts.Introduction comes first which mainly states the background, significance, methods and the contents of the research. It also summarizes and analyzes the present research status both from abroad and at home on the whole and then proposes the scope and domains related to this paper.The second part describes the content, characteristics and influence factors of adults’metacognitive ability under network environment.The third part summarizes and analyzes the adults’recognition competence status under the network environment based on the questionnaires and interviews.The last part is a conclusion which summarizes the achievements and deficiencies of this paper.
