| Recently, much attention has been paid to college teachers’ work stress and nocturnalsleep quality. College teachers’ physical and mental health and their job performance havebeen found association with work stresses and sleep quality. The purpose of this study was toevaluate the impact of locus of control and dispositional optimism on the relation betweenwork stresses and sleep quality.427College teachers in Heilongjiang province were recruited by random clustersampling method. Four self report questionnaires included Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI), Reevaluation of the Life Orientation Test, Work Locus of Control Scale, and Scalefor Work Stress on University Teachers were administrated to explore the relations amongwork stress, dispositional optimism, locus of control and sleep quality.The results of this study are summarized as follows:1. Scale for Work Stress on University Teachers is formed of seven dimensions includedacademic research, tissue function, personal development, promotion, teaching, workload andinterpersonal relationship, and34items altogether. The scale was found to have acceptablereliability and validity, and could be used to measure work stress of college teachers.2. The study finds significant differences in total work stress included subscales and totalsleep quality included subscales with regard to some demographic variables.3. Work stress, dispositional optimism and locus of control of college teachers couldpredict sleep quality of college teachers.4. Dispositional optimism moderates the relationship between work stress and sleepquality.5. Locus of control plays a partial mediating role between work stress and sleep quality.6. Locus of control also plays a partial mediating role between dispositional optimismand sleep quality.7. The moderating role of the dispositional optimism is completely mediated by locus ofcontrol. The partial mediating role of the locus of control is moderated by dispositionaloptimism. |
