Curriculum consciousness is not only the important part of contemporary curriculum research, butthe main aspects of new curriculum reform as well. Experimental Standards of the New Curriculum forSenior English clearly demands that EFL teachers should relevant curriculum consciousness andcurriculum ability. And they should change their former concept of education, searching for an effective,creative teaching approach to promote students comprehensive development, and trying to be innovativeresearch-based EFL teachers. In view of this situation, this paper puts the research perspective on thecurriculum consciousness of EFL teachers in western senior high schools.Based on the curriculum development theory and New English Standards, the author made a survey to130EFL teachers in10senior high schools in Lanzhou to investigate the current situation of EFL teachers’curriculum consciousness and its influencing factors, aiming to find effective ways to enhance theircurriculum consciousness and provide some suggestions for EFL teachers’ professional development andnew curriculum reform.After the analysis of the elements of curriculum consciousness and their influencing factors inaccordance with the data collected through questionnaires and interviews, some key conclusions aredrawn:1. Overall, the impact of teachers’ gender, education background, working experience and trainingexperience on TCC is very significant.2. Their curriculum consciousness is inconsistence with their curriculum ability, and it isn’tincorporated into actual teaching activities.3. The single curriculum evaluation model not only hinders the development of EFL teachers’curriculum but also affects their professional development.4. The reflective consciousness of high school English teacher is single, and lacks systematictheoretical guidance, and it can’t meet its regulation of the entire teaching activities.On this basis, some suggestions are made for education department and EFL teachers. Educationdepartment should attach importance to EFL teachers’ training to raise their curriculum consciousness andprofessional skills and should set up an effective and reasonable evaluation mechanism. EFL teachersshould timly transform their curriculum consciousness into curriculum behavior and strengthen their self-reflection conciousness so as to improve their teaching ability.
