Nowadays, a large number of Chinese educators are making many meaningfulresearches in teaching Chinese composition in the background where the newcurriculum is being implemented, many new teaching ideas are being experimented, anddifferent teaching models are being advocated. However due to such reasons asstudents’ heavy academic burden and small social circle, and single evaluation standard, the effects of all teaching attempts are not significant. After a thorough reflection on thecurrent situation of Chinese composition teaching, the author believes that divorcingfrom true life is the leading cause of the unsatisfactory results. Based on variouscomposition teaching theories both from home and abroad, the present paper makes anattempt to bridge the gap between students’ compositions and real life, put forward anautonomic composition teaching model, and at the same time improve students’ writinglevel. The paper is composed of four chapters.Chapter one defines the concept of life-based composition, and points out its fourfeatures: subjectivity, embodiment, uniqueness and development.Chapter two clarifies the reasons and meanings of advocating life-basedcomposition. The reasons can be listed as follows: First, the changes in the way of lifeleave students insensitive to life; second, test-oriented composition writing contributesto students’ ignorance of real life; third, task-based composition writing lacks systematictheories and practical textbooks; fourth, the evaluation system of composition is stillrather unreasonable; fifth, the training content and training approaches are disordered;finally, senior middle school students have psychological needs of life-basedcomposition. In addition, the meanings of life-based compositions lie in the facts that itcan enhance students’ writing interest and language proficiency, and that it can enrichstudents’ souls and shape their characters.Chapter three mainly deals with the basic theories and the present situation oflife-based composition writing both at home and abroad to provide proofs of its feasibility.Chapter four attempts to offer some effective implementation strategies in regardwith life-based composition writing, as theories have little value unless put into practice. The author puts forward respective implementation strategies from the perspectives ofstudents and teaching respectively. Students should be encouraged to approach, discoverand express the real life and write in an authentic way. Meanwhile, teachers should becalled on to set writing assignments and evaluate them on the basis on real life.Teaching composition writing is systematic and complex project. The presentarticle is aimed to bring forward some tentative views and suggestions concerning theexisting problems in the teaching composition writing in the hope that they can be ofsome use to others.
