In the1960s, the famous French adult educator P-Lengrand proposed "Lifelong Education" and discussed it. UNESCO and some other relevant international bodies have made a great contribution to the spread of lifelong education in the world. Since then, many countries have taken the lifelong education as a basic principle of education reform and an important guideline. Through the national efforts, lifelong education has transformed from concept to practice. Building learning society and promoting popular learning have been regarded as important goals by many countries. The construction of lifelong education system has become a major strategy of education reform and development in our county.However, because of the differences in political, economic, and cultural background and in national conditions and individual needs, the importance of lifelong education and the support means of lifelong learning vary from country to country. In the United States and China case, the Chinese educational circles started researching lifelong education more lately. The United States established the legal status of lifelong education as early as the1970s, and all states were also active in lifelong learning. The United States supports lifelong education and tries its best to build a relatively perfect system of lifelong education. China and the United States are roughly same at how to guarantee lifelong education, but they have their own specific practices.This paper introduces support means of lifelong education in China and the United States, including the relevant policies, financial support, education institutions and learning resources. Then it analyzes and compares the impetus of building lifelong education security system, support means and features of security system of the two countries. Finally, it reflects on Chinese lifelong education system and attempt to learn from the American experience on the basis of learning more about it in order to promote lifelong education development in China.
