| The world today is a multicultural one in which reform and opening to the outsideworld, globalized economy and the development of modern information technology havebrought about profound changes in the fields of cultural value in China characterized bybreaking the single cultural value and mixing those of various kinds together, thus forminga coexistence of multicultural patterns. The formation of multi-culture plays a significantrole in both thriving and developing culture itself and enriching the individual’s life and theemancipation of thought. In the meantime, however, it also breaks the original life of oursunder the influence of single culture causing clashes and disorders in people’s minds andvalues, the strong impact on social ethics, and unavoidably giving rise to negativeinfluences on moral development of college students.The current China’s multicultural background provides an opportunity for students todevelop and enhance their moral option as well as problems and challenges. Basically, howto allow students to make a correct choice of morality lies in developing their own moralchoice ability. The ability for moral option is in fact a sort of a practical one to opt ethicalstandards, code of ethics and moral values established by people on their own. Students’ability for Moral choice in the context of multi-cultures shows that the subjectiveconsciousness has been constantly strengthened, but their cognitive level of morality hasbeen low, that the contents chosen have been constantly enriched, but the ability for moralchoice has not been strong enough and that the opportunities for moral choice have beenon the rise, but the moral will has been relatively weak. Study of its causes lies in thatstudents’ ability for moral choice are affected to varying degrees by such factors as moraleducation in school, social environment, family education and college students themselves.How to find the way to train moral choice ability of college students in the context ofmulti-culture has become a theme of the times before us.In this paper, in-depth analyses on status quo of moral choice ability of collegestudents are conducted based on multicultural background and the influence on collegestudents’ moral choice as the starting point to find out why college students are lack ofmoral choice ability and to elaborate how to train effectively students’ moral choice abilityin the context of multicultural background from such four aspects as moral education ininstitutions of higher learning, creating proper campus culture, optimizing socialenvironment and students’ self-cultivation so as to improve students’ moral choice abilityconstantly to meet the challenge of multi-culture. |
