Different from day pupils, boarders at schools are offered accommodation, which means that the school management is responsible for both their study and daily life. The establishment of boarding schools in rural areas is a rational choice to cope with the education of the left-behind children in rural areas, which can effectively solve a series of problems caused by the absence of parents, the weakening of family education environment and the absence of monitoring functions. It can improve the education quality of the rural areas and promote the development of the education cause in rural areas. The left-behind children always remains a prominent problem in the western part of China. However, it is also serious in Jiangsu province, located in the eastern coastal area. Although Jiangsu province is playing a leading role in social and economic development of the country, it fails to balance the development of the northern and southern part as well as the urban and rural areas, which leads to the long history and large scale of the rural labor output. In this way, the left-behind children problem becomes extremely severe. With the number of the left-behind children in the northern part of Jiangsu increasing year by year, the establisement of boarding schools and the proper management of education has caught great attention. The rural schools in the northern part of Jiangsu province have attached great importance to the care of the left-behind children. But how about the living conditions of those left-behind children in the boarding schools? What kind of influence will the boarding schools exert on the development of the left-behind children? How will the curriculum, the teaching activities and the school management system play the dual functions of supervision and education? These problems have not been explored with in-depth investigation and research. In this thesis, questionnaires and interviews are conducted on the left-behind children in rural boarding schools in Huai’an.
