Case Study On The Major Needs Of The Specialty Of Information Management And System In Medicial Independent College

Independent colleges have been booming in the process of higher education’s development in China and come into the new things. Haiyuan College of Kunming Medical University, the only medical undergraduate independent College in Yunnan province, was founded in2001. The specialty of information management and system (computer technology in medical and health applications) was established in2009, which aims at bringing up inter-disciplinary talent for the management of medical information within the development of hospital’s informationization. Facing the market, the present situation of students’ major needs, the gap between the conditions offered by the school and students’ needs, and how to improve in order to meet the needs of the students have become the main content of this study.The target of this study is for the140students of specialty of information management and system in Haiyuan College of Kunming Medical University, by means of questionnaire and interview for empirical research. Major needs is divided into five dimensions:curriculum provision, learning environment, professional internships, teachers’ instruction and class culture and subdivided into fifteen indicator. I have used SPSS v19.0for statistical analysis to test the assumptions, and drew the following three conclusions:(1) Doing comparative studies on the questionnaires involves five dimensions of fifteen indicators, the values between students’ satisfaction and importance are negative, and show negative correlation; that is, students think that all fifteen major needs indicator are important, but are not satisfied, and with the increase of the indicator’s importance, the students’ satisfaction will decrease. Using paired samples T-test, it is concluded that the students’ satisfaction and importance to the indicators of the major needs exist differences.(2) Through the chi-square test, it is concluded that with the factors of grades、sexes、origins、branches、household types and voluntary types, the degree of the students’ major needs have significant change. There are significant differences of major needs in different grade students; similar differences of the indicator of major needs among the students of different sexes、origins、branches、 household types; special differences of major needs in different voluntary type students.(3)Through the independent sample t-test and F test, it is concluded that among the students of different grades、sexes、origins、branches、voluntary types, there are differences among the indicator of major needs, some exist significant differences. Only the students from urban or rural areas in different types of household have no differences among the indicator involving all the aspects of major needs.To improve the students’ major needs from independent college in the specialty of information management and system, the author proposes improvement measures from the following three aspects:(1)A student-centered, society needs-oriented to cultivate the applied talents;(2)Highlight the characteristics of the specialty of information management and system in medical university, enhance the students’confidence of this major;(3) Simplify the curriculum and adjust the time, increase the proportion of practical courses; select the suitable teaching materials for the third-rate undergraduate, open the computer laboratory at the spare time and improve the facilities, increase the library’s professional collections; expand practice bases and arrange practical apprentice in advance; increase practice class teachers, with the equal important guidance of both knowledge and methods; strengthen learning communications, build up a good class culture, etc.
