Because of different guiding ideologies and different historical heritages, teachingmaterials often show different characteristics and styles. The paper chooses High SchoolCurriculum Standard Textbook Geography published by People’s Education Press in Beijingand Geography Of Learning published by Oxford University Press in Hong Kong in2009.Comparing these two textbooks,we find that Hong Kong’s high school geography teachingmaterials have some unique features: As for the material surface systems, the "Text" part isdesigned with a structured, focused and continuous feature;the "Image" part is designed morescientifical, performed more obvious, tackled more flexible, and focuse on contrastconfiguration of the image; the designation of the "Activities" part is diverse and practical,and combines with multimedia applications. In the aspect of selecting and organizing ofteaching materials, it focuses on introduction of geographical skills, and is some"project-based" style as presentation style. In adapts teaching structure, it is designed with thecharacteristics of multi level nature and multi-part. We also find differences as follows: Indesigning of the surface system, in the design of the "text", Mainland teaching materials havethe characteristics of objective and simplicity while Hong Kong teaching materialsenlightening and richness; in the design of "Image", it has different forms of image, regions ofselection and dimensions of expression. In selecting content, it has the differences both inknowledge systems and speeds of the knowledge updating. In organizing content, it has thedifferences both in the style of presentation and organizational framework. In style structure,Hong Kong textbooks are designed with more layers and columns than Mainland materials.Learning from the teaching materials in Hong Kong, it provides the recommendations formainland materials basing on its own characteristics. Also, it can provide new ideas for theteaching of geography. |
