At present, PowerPoint has been widely applied in classes as teaching media, integratingtexts, images, pictures, sounds, animations and video clipping, which endows it withincomparable advantage compared with traditional teaching media. In the process of learning,PowerPoint offers learners a true-to-life environment and profoundly brings learners’enthusiasm and initiative into play. As an ideal teaching approach, PowerPoint courseware hasalso been commonly used by chemistry teachers in their teaching practice. Thus, this thesisfocuses on researching how PowerPoint has been designed and made in practical chemistryclasses and what effect has been achieved in teaching practice. The thesis shows the application of PowerPoint courseware in middle school classes, andfinds out the existing problems with possible solutions, which not only make PowerPointcourseware better assist chemistry class teaching, but also provides suggestions for integrationof information technology with other disciplines. These problems arise out of either design orapplication; solutions to the problems will help improve the status quo in PowerPoint-aidedchemistry teaching and achieve the dual goal of higher teaching efficiency and better teachingperformance. The thesis includes four parts.Part I introduces the background and research methods of the topic.Part II introduces the principles of PowerPoint courseware making and relevant theoriesregarding its application in teaching, which lays foundation with the fundamental theories.Part III is the main part of the thesis, researching the status quo of PowerPoint makingand applying in middle school chemistry classes based on documentary method, researchmethod and sampling method. Some evaluation criteria for PowerPoint courseware aredeveloped out of “principles of PowerPoint courseware designing and making”, evaluatingand analyzing courseware chosen as samples and reflecting the present level of chemistryteachers’ courseware making. Through documentation, or relevant researches and studies athand, generalizes the principles, effects, existing problems, etc. in the application ofPowerPoint courseware in teaching. A questionnaire to be completed by middle schoolchemistry teachers has been drawn up based on these principles, effects and problems; theresult will present the actual condition of PowerPoint courseware in present teaching.Part IV includes conclusion and suggestions, with implications of the research andrelevant suggestions given.
