Cultural Diversity:Community Identity And Village Adiminitation

Governance in rural areas can not be separated from the identity of rural community, whose most important part is rural cultural identity. In recent years, there are significant changes in rural cultural, which become the focus of study in the field of rural area. The traditional rural culture is dominated by rural society. Since the reform and opening up in the last century of seventy years, the society of China has got dramatic change. With the rapid development of market economy, urbanization and industrialization, the rural areas of China is in a period of rapid change. With the accelerated process of modernization, the rural society in china has undergone drastic changes, and the rural areas have become more open than ever. With the advance of modernization and marketization in rural areas, the diversity of culture in rural areas, beliefs, customs, ideas and other factors in traditional cultural still play the dominated roles in the countryside. But with the injection of new cultural factors, the rural culture tends to be diversity, which has an important impact to the recognition of rural communities and rural governance. The cultural diversity has weakened the recognition of traditional rural communities, has lessened public awareness and public space, and has changed the rural order, which bring some difficulties to the village governance. Village governance is based on political consensus which is opposed by cultural diversity. By analyzing the present situation of rural culture in the new era and the impact of rural community identity made by the change of rural culture, we should take the advantage of culture to integrate the variety of resources in rural areas as to reach the village governance and promote the new rural construction.Taking the example of village in north China in the paper, I analyzed the status of rural culture, the status and changes of customs, morals and values in the rural culture, the reasons of these changes, and the impaction on rural communities and community identity from two points of both traditional and modern. Finally, by taking the example of N Village in Hebei province, I suggested that we should study and take the advantage of the rural culture to integrate all kinds of resources, clear up the contradiction, enhance the community identity of the village and achieve the village governance.
