Ideological And Political Education Of College Students Under The Influence Of Contemporary Western Political Thought

In recent years, with the continuous expansion of globalization, marketization, andinformatization, our country is inevitably trapped into this surge, the impacts of which havebeen shown on every aspect of our society. In the surge of cultural globalization, variouswestern political thoughts have emerged and been spreading over China. This phenomenonhas influenced the dominant political ideology and the thoughts of contemporary collegestudents in our country to some extent. Regarding to the effects, there are both positive onesand negative ones. It is reasonable that we should implement education on ideological andpolitical education of college students aimed at contemporary western political thoughts,which is of great benefit to strengthen our alertness against “evolution in peace” by westerncountries, widen our views, update our concepts, distinguish rights from wrongs in majortheories clearly, stick to beliefs in socialism, and establish extensive minds and correctmanners for scientific analysis. The main contents of contemporary western political thoughtsinclude neo-liberalism, neo-conservatism, Social democracy, new nationalism andpostmodernism etc. The strength and intensity of those concepts’ external output have beenenhanced through various approaches such as classroom education, academic exchanges,mass media, international trade, national communications etc. On one hand, we should resistthe adverse effects of western political thoughts on college students; on the other hand, weshould draw essences from the experiences in western political thoughts’ developments andachievements actively, take the best from all aspects, in order to build the Socialist spiritualcivilization more effectively and smoothly, and strengthen our youth especially students’ideological and political quality and ability to distinguish rights from wrongs in majortheories.The thesis can be divided into the following five parts:Part Ⅰ Define the basic concepts and categories of contemporary western politicalthoughts, and then analyze the origin, development and nature of contemporary westernpolitical thoughts. Obtain a scientific evaluation of the contemporary western politicalthoughts, lay the theoretical basis of the certain policy for ideological and political educationof college students under the influence of contemporary western political thoughts.Part Ⅱ Briefly demonstrate the importance of implementing ideological and politicaleducation of college students aimed at contemporary western political thoughts. Part Ⅲ Focus on several basic viewpoints of the contemporary western political thoughts,such as neo-liberalism, neo-conservatism, social democracy, new nationalism andpostmodernism. Analyze the negative and positive effects caused by these different views ofWestern political thoughts on college students one by one.Part Ⅳ Analyze in a full range of effects imposed by contemporary western politicalthoughts on ideological and political education of college students in China through methodsincluding university courses, academic exchanges, mass medias, international trade, nationalcommunications etc. Lay the foundations for taking countermeasures in the field ofideological and political education.Part Ⅴ The anchor point of the whole thesis is represented at this part. Demonstrate thecountermeasures in ideological and political education of college students in the surge ofcontemporary western political thoughts. Firstly, it requests us to insist the concept of classanalysis, link theory with practice, observe nature through phenomenon，analyse questionsbased on actual situations, oppose faulty tendency. Secondly, it requests us to take care of therelationship between criticizing and adopting, as well as the relationship between “one matterdominates” and “all matters exist in harmony”. Thirdly, it requests us to enhance theeducation on college students’ concepts of politics and values in all aspects under theinfluence of contemporary western political thoughts. Fourthly, it requests us to strengthentheoretical research, pay close attention to the tendency of students’ thoughts, combinestrength in all aspects during our actual implement. Only if the measures above be takenthoroughly, could we strengthen college students’ ideological and political quality and abilityto distinguish rights from wrongs in major theories, march on the road of socialism withChinese characteristics and stick to our beliefs in Marxism.
