In recent years, with the increasing influence of Chinese language and Chineseculture in the world, it also led to the increasing number of foreign students in china.Along with the expansion of foreign students’ education scale and the growth ofcross-cultural communication in China, more and more students are faced with across-cultural adaptation problem. The author’s research is based on the foreign studentsof Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Donghua University, ShanghaiFinance and Economics University and Shanghai International Studies University inShanghai, and the purpose is studying the present situation of the cross-culturaladaptation of the students in Shanghai’s universities, then put forward suggestions toeffectively according to difficulties in the process,helping students improve thecross-cultural adaptive capacity, reducing the cross-cultural communication barriers.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, mainlydescribing and analying the puting forward of the topic, the research significance, theresearch object, research methods and the former research achievements of descriptionand analysis. The second part mainly expounds the theoretical background of thecross-cultural adaptation, including three classic adaptation models and the factorsinfluencing cross-cultural adaptation. The third part is mainly the statistical data of thequestionnaire to the145international students in five Shanghai’s universities, then carryout analysis from mental adaptation, social life adaptation and learning adaptation of thestudents to know the current situation of cross-cultural adaptation of the students inShanghai. The fourth part is mainly some suggestions based on the conclusion in thethird part of the intercultural adaptation difficulties to foreign students in Shanghai, thesesuggestions are proposed based on university students management and have thereference significance. The fifth part is epilogue, including the author’s understanding ofdeficiencies in this research.
