The Study On The Process Of Cross-cultural Adaptation To Korean Students In Beijing

At present,with the increase of Korean foreign students in universities in Beijing,many of them are facing challenges in the process of cross-cultural adaptation for the certain differences between China and Korea,although both cultures belong to the East Asian cultural circle.As a result,cross-cultural research appointing to Korean foreign students becomes the need of reality.Current literatures mostly research influencing factors of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation from the microscopic view,or their inside psychological mechanism from the perspective of psychology.However,it is comparatively deficient in researching the process of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation as a whole and its coping strategies.This research regards Korean foreign students in Beijing as study subject,trying to explore their process of cross-cultural adaptation,analyzing crises they face in different stages,as well as adjustment methods they use to deal with crises and finally complete the adaption of Chinese culture.This dissertation adopts qualitative research method,which illustrates the process of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation by stages,through in-depth interviews of nine Korean foreign students in universities in Beijing and two foreign student teaching assistants.This dissertation explores the process of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation in depth,under the guidance of acculturation theory and cross-cultural U-model curve theory.Research finds that Korean foreign students in Beijing show different adaptation forms during the process of crosscultural adaptation since the difference of individual characteristics.In addition,different adjustment attitudes influence the process of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation,and different adaptation strategies decide the outcome of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation.According to above conclusions,this dissertation considers that the success of Korean foreign students' cross-cultural adaptation demands joint efforts of Chinese universities,Korean international students' administration and Korean foreign students.First of all,Chinese universities should increase knowledge of cross-cultural adaptation appropriately in HSK and textbooks,cultivating cross-cultural communication awareness of teaching teams and service departments for study abroad,as well as increasing the construction of foreign students' psychological courses.Secondly,Korean international students' administration should ensure objective and true propaganda of Chinese culture,and pay attention to the construction of foreign students' psychological courses.Thirdly,Korean foreign students should improve their resistant ability and adaptive capacity,building social support system actively.
