Second Language Acquisition (SLA) of the theory to describe the learner’sstage of development constitutes the nature of the interlanguage of any kind, and explainswhy the particular type of learner language development. They also play a role in foreignlanguage teaching and learning. Krashen’s Monitor Theory (MT) is the most in foreignlanguage teaching in China (foreign language) influence. It including the five hypotheses,they are the acquisition of learning hypothesis, natural order hypothesis, monitoringhypothesis, the Input Hypothesis and the Affective Filter Hypothesis. All of them explain theprocess of second language acquisition in different aspects. Krashen emphasizes thatcomprehensible input is very important in language acquisition, and it has a positive influenceon foreign reading teaching. And for a long time, how to improve students’ reading ability ispaid much attention by teacher, parents and students themselves. Reading is an essentialsocial and cultural skill of second language learning. Reading is the most important aspect inlearning language skills. It is the basis of grasping language knowledge, improving languageapplied and self-learning capability as well as getting information. As for English teaching,the most important period of cultivating students’ reading skills is in high school. TheEnglish Curriculum Syllabus for High School that our country has promulgated definitelyemphasizes the importance of reading in English teaching. The new curriculum standard(Experiment) reiterates: High school English teaching should make the students’ basicknowledge stronger and develop their four basic language abilities of listening, speaking,reading and writing in order to help students further their study and form a good basis forapplying English. So, the improving of reading ability is one of the important goals ofteaching. On the basis of language experts, investigation and analysis of current readingteaching method in high schools by means of Krashen’s theory, this thesis explores someimportant teaching methods for cultivating ESL reading ability for the purpose of promotingteaching level in high schools. Firstly, this thesis analyzes the definition of reading, and thenstates the purposes of reading. After exploring the problems appearing in English reading inhigh school in our country, according to how to exert for both teachers and students in reading,the author gives some suggestions to solve the problems.
