| Task-based language Teaching (TBLT), a type of language teaching approach, wasadvocated in the1980s which is on the basis of practicing from foreign languageteaching researchers and second language acquisition researchers. From the basicmental requirement of the students, it is deemed that the study is to meet the needs ofindividual internal process. In the teaching goal, it attends outstanding teachingcordiality function. Mostly, the subjects of this kind of studies are the students fromthe middle schools, where most of the students have solid language foundation, goodstudy habits and clear goals. These provide a good basis for the application of thetask-based language teaching. However, in the secondary occupational schools, the students’ language learninghas great obstacles, such as lack of English language learning interest, and thefoundation of learning is not good enough. Moreover, the English teachers know littleabout TBLT. The author did the experimental research to check whether the task-basedteaching is effective for secondary occupational schools. The study tries to answer thefollowing research questions:1. IS TBLT effective in English teaching in secondary occupational schools?2. Can the students accept TBLT and in what degrees?3. Does the teacher have a better understanding of TBLT?With deep research into the classical theories, Wills’ model for TBLT was adoptedand proposed. The writer did the experiment at Grade two in Dalian Economic andTrade School. It lasted for ten weeks, from March to May2011to test whether TBLT iseffective in English learning. The analysis both in qualitative and quantitative methodswill be made on the use of TBLT in English teaching by the students’ scores. Aquestionnaire was handed out to the experimental class before and after the test to checkwhether TBLT has positive influence on students’ attitude towards English learning. After the test, the author had an interview with the teacher who actually gave the lessonsto observe her cognitive changes towards TBLT.The research findings indicate that properly designed tasks can, to some extent, improve the students’ learning abilities in English. The students after the experimenthave much more interest in English reading. The author also puts forward somesuggestions for teachers and sincere hope for future researches. |
