Chinese president Hu Jintao pointed out the essential issue we faced in China’s socialist education career is what kind of talents to cultivate and how to cultivate them in the Conference on strengthen and improve the college students’ ideological-political education in January,2006. College students are the precious talent resource of a country. To make them to be the qualified constructors and reliable successors of building the socialism with Chinese characteristics. We should improve their qualities both in culture and thoughts. Therefore, most directors and educators of the Teaching Department and colleges agreed that it’s function-oriented to put the ideological and political education to an important position. However, there is still much that needs to have a further exploration no matter from the theoretical research, the teaching team construction, the institution building, or the practical activity.Art education is significant with the function of developing intelligence, cultivating minds and enhancing cultural qualities. Since the21st century, we have paid more attention on art education. It has played a positive role in promoting quality-oriented education and reinforcing the campus culture construction. Besides learning the basic knowledge and skills, plenty of colleges carry out activities full of variety via art courses to make the students creative and practical to improve their aesthetical ability and cultural qualities, to exploit their potential, what’s more, to promote health of body and mind and a comprehensive and coordinated development.Ideological and political education and the art education tread different paths that lead to the same destination, though there are a number of differences between them not only in their theoretical and method system, but also education contents, forms and methods. They can borrow from each other on teaching means and education mechanism. Thus, quite a few scholars and educators have been exploring the theoretical bases, functions and methods to combine ideological and political education and the art education so that they can find a new space to make the two kinds of educations interpenetrate.The essay starts with the current situation of the combination between the ideological-political education and the art education so as to offer some specific and effective references. On the one hand, exploring the common features and inner laws by the summary between the source tracing and practical experience in order to further up exploring the new approaches and methods combining the ideological-political education and the art education. On the other hand, not only to ameliorate the inflexibility and boundedness of the present ideological-political education, but also to enrich both campus culture and college students’ ideological-political education.
