With the disintegration of government-run social, the city communities where urban residents live have to undertake more social functions. The community’s neighborhood committee overload more responsibility on administrative functions, informal groups which formed by urban residents in community are playing an important and positive role in community construction. As informal group of community development lags behind, the uneven development of organizational types as well as the organization’s weak autonomy slow down the pace of informal community organizations to promote community construction. Based in the analysis of informal groups’construction path and functions provide the impetus for the community to target the development of specific types of informal groups in community, and also have greater practical significance in community construction.Under the instruction of the general process of social work practice, this paper starts with carding the concepts of informal groups in community, then taking community J in Nanjing for example to make a thorough inquiry in the history and organization functions of informal groups in this community by using the methods of interviews, observations and document analysis. By means of summing up the history of informal groups’construction in the community, the construction path of informal groups are divided into three patterns which are "developing from bottom to top" pattern,"developing from higher authorities" pattern and "developing from external forces’intervention" pattern. The differences of three constructional patterns are related to the way of resources obtained. In the framework of society ecosystems theory, the analysis of influence factors of informal groups in community proceeding from the way of resources obtained, analyzing influence factors fall into three aspects macro, medium and micro-levels. Through the description of how informal groups play a role in community construction to expound their roles and functions in community.
