In recent years, due to the fierce competition of university enrollment and lowrequirements of academic achievement score for art major, many high school studentswith low academic achievement scores view Art College Entrance Examination as ashort-cut to universities. Art students emerge with the tide. Art College EntranceExamination, together with professional and academic examinations, is their goal. Amajority of them have weak basis of academic courses, math being weaker. This hasgreatly hindered their development in an all-around way and also denied their chances ofbeing accepted by ideal universities. However, with the advancement of social economy,mathematics has already influenced almost every area of people’s life with anincreasingly obvious application. This requires that as new talents of this society, theymust possess certain mathematics abilities. Therefore, the issue of fostering art students’math ability is worth being focused.Firstly, this thesis systematically elaborates the background, main issues, approachesand significance of the research, and also summarizes researches done by foreignscholars about the learning ability of high school art students. Through the review, it isfound that the current existing researches mainly focus on the following aspects:mathematical literacy, autonomous learning, learning effect and effectiveness evaluation.However, there are few researches on the learning ability of high school art students.Secondly, this thesis expounds some definitions and theoretical bases of the research.Combining with characteristics of math learning, it introduces the meaning of mathlearning ability. Then, combining with the teaching characteristics of high school art classand mental traits of art students, it finds out the theoretical bases of the research: theoryof differentiated instruction, mental representation of ability and learning theories inpedagogy.Thirdly, in order to get a clearer and deeper understanding of high school artstudents’ math learning ability, a lot of questionnaires and interviews of teachers andstudents are done to find out the factors that influence their math learning ability, amongwhich there are non intellectual factors, intellectual factors and also basic mathematicalskills. And combining with the current math learning of the high school art students andbeginning from the current situation of low math learning ability, this thesis also analyzesforms of manifestation and reasonsFourthly, according to the phenomenon especially the reasons mentioned in Chapter Three, this thesis puts forward the following thoughts: requirements for teachers of artclasses; reauirements for art students, which are focused on cultivating their thinkingquality; promoting the improvement of math learning ability by sense of art andimproving their artistic level by beauty of math.The research shows that in the math learning of art students, non intellectual factorslike learning motivation, learning interests, learning habits, family environment andwillpower should be emphasized, while learning methods, ways of thinking and basicmath learning skills should also be emphasized. And effective teaching measures andguiding methods should be adopted to let them form good habits. Only in this way canthe art students get rid of the situation of low math learning ability and develop in anall-round way.
