The culture of a nationality maintains its national identity, while education, which is committed to preserving the ethnic culture, is the carrier of the inheritance of ethnic culture. As for Dong Xiang nationality, who only has languages with no written, and whose public education is also underdeveloped, family education is the main means to inherit ethnic culture. Since family can be seen as a cultural context, its education has congenital advantages than public education in inheriting ethnic culture. Therefore, the exerting of this advantage largely influences the inheritance and the continuousness of the ethnic traditional culture. Nowadays, with the development of modernization and the diversity of culture, the traditional culture of Dong Xiang nationality has declined, showing in the cultural fault among generations of family education, which is an issue deserving of study. How the family education could make the most of the advantage of context is an issue to be repeatedly thinks about. This thesis tries to analyze the relationship between family education and the inheritance of ethnic culture of Dong Xiang nationality from the perspective of cultural anthropology.This thesis employs case study which takes Miao Er Ling village of Dong Xiang nationality autonomous county in Gan Su province as examples. The participation, observation, and the systematic fieldwork helped the author to analyze the circumstances, the thoughts and the modes of family education of Dong Xiang nationality. Moreover, the content of family education is the focal point of the analysis, which could present the current situation of the inheritance of ethnic culture. This thesis further analyzes the factors which influence the inheritance of ethnic traditional culture in family education. And how the family education of Dong Xiang nationality could better inherit the ethnic traditional culture is profoundly thought over by the author. Then some measures are proposed. The Dong Xiang nationality should have cultural consciousness, and employ educational techniques to develop both traditional education and modern education by mixing ethnic culture into public education and enhancing the construction of family education. At the same time, the government should protect the inheritance of ethnic culture by providing necessary supports and offering suggestions to improve both macro and micro circumstances of Dong Xiang nationality’s family education.
