In background of constantly updated educational ideas,subject matter teachinghas become a focus. Subject matter teaching, under the circumstances ofinformatization, is a communication process between teachers and students. Theprocess is based on modern instruction theory is supported by informationaltechnology with the application of modern instructional methods. Compared with thetraditional instruction, it has the multimedia instruction materials, personalizedinstruction, open design and independent learning.The development of moderninformation technology is profoundly influencing the English teaching, in whichreading in the high school English teaching is a very important aspect. But influencedby traditional teaching for many years, students are still lack of interest in English, thereading ability of students is difficult to improve.Aimed at abovementioned situation analysis, the study of multimedia assistedEnglish reading teaching is carried out. We found that teachers often use fixedteaching method, which does not give enough attention for multimedia auxiliaryteaching; the using of the technology is uniform, which means that teachers cannotfully grasp the timing and the application mode of multimedia. In this dissertation,based on the related theories of reading, we put forward the combination of task-basedlanguage teaching method and genre-based approach; we analyze the characteristicsand the use of multimedia technology in English reading teaching. We propose thehypothesis that using multimedia assisted teaching can stimulate students’ readinginterest and improve students reading leveland prove it by empirical research.The experiment is carried out in No.16high school of DaLian.The example is fromtwo parallel class taught by the same teacher. Before the trial, we launch a survey forobserving the factors that influence the reading level by utilizing multimedia. Throughclassroom observation, interviews and questionnaires, by statistical analysis on thereading score and comprehensive competence of the two classes, we make theconclusion of the employing of multimedia in the new method could improvelearners’ reading interest and reading level.
