Since2001, our country has promoted the reform of the new curriculum vigorously, callingfor more attention on each student’s lifelong development. Anchored instruction model,influenced by the constructivism learning theory popular in the West, emphasizes that studentsshould take advantage of their existing experience in the whole process of learning. And what itfocuses on is all the students rather than some. Thus, it is consistent with the basic requirementsof the new curriculum reform to apply it to the geography teaching in senior high school.This thesis, mainly based on high school geography teaching practice, makes a thoroughanalysis of the educational significance of the anchored instruction model. By comparing thismodel with the traditional teaching model in the teaching practice, the author finally proves itsappropriateness in geography teaching class, which provides certain theoretical support for thedesigning of high school geography class today and helps accumulate practical experience forpromoting the reform of high school geography curriculum.Documentation method, questionnaire method, experimental method and statistic methodwere adopted in the study. In the experiment, the author used anchored instruction model in theexperimental class and traditional instruction model in the control class. By investigating thesituation of geography learning among senior high school students, analyzing the teachingtheories and integrating the studying contents, the author pointed out there was notabledifference between the two models in teaching effect. Here are the results of the experiment.(1)The anchored instruction model can greatly stimulate the students’ interest in learninggeography, thus laying the foundation for highly efficient geography class.(2)The anchored instruction model focuses more on the whole process of knowledgeconstructing and the promotion of the students’ ability of self-study, cooperation, andcommunication.(3)The application of the anchored instruction model to the geography teaching of seniorhigh school can remarkably improve the students’ academic performance and increase thestudents’ chance of passing the college entrance examination.
