The mathematics education is due to the “learning” finally. Learning will bringabout doubts or questions. How do students do with these questions? To ignore it or toseek help? Many studies have shown that students avoid seeking help in the classroomwhen they really need it. What is the reality of the students in Suzhou? What is thereason of students avoiding seeking help? These become the content of this paper.This paper mainly divides into three parts. The first part is the literature review ofscholars in China and abroad, including the definition, the characteristics, theclassification of the academic help, the reason of avoidance of help seeking and somerelated studies in mathematics education.The second part is the main part of this paper. This is about the design and resultsof the study. For the present, there are so many quantitative research in the educationfield in China. This paper is trying to use mixed method to investigate the behavior andattitudes of academic help of the Grade8students in Suzhou, in which elected theavoidance of help seeking-students to participate interviews to analyze the reason ofavoiding seeking help.On the basis of the investigation of two classes of students, the third part of thispaper include the conclusions and some suggestions which is to courage students toask questions on one’s own when face the doubts in mathematics learning.
