Along with the development of higher education, the quality of personnel training is increasingly taken attention of society. But for a variety of reasons, now the quality of personnel training take more attention to quality of teaching, which is based on teaching, and only a little researchers pay attention to learning, which is based on learning quality. But, the research on academic engagement more about factors of students’ academic engagement concentrates on the macroscopic level and the comprehensive academic engagement of students, which is less on meso-level and micro-level and the effects of social factor. But social utilitarian factors have more important effects on the learning, life, employment, so the choices of students’ learning behaviors more depend on the expects and values of learning, which makes the choices of students’ academic engagement behaviors more diversity. Therefore, this study in medium course level, considers social utilitarian factors, in the perspective of expectancy-value, and makes an empirical research to college students’ academic engagement and learning effects. This study consists of six parts:The first part is the introduction, it firstly introduces the study background and put forward the research problems; secondly analysis meaning of the study; thirdly define the research subject, introduce research methods and research content; finally, put forward the research idea and framework for the study. The second part is literature review at home and abroad, which review the literature about the expectancy-value and academic engagement of undergraduates briefly, and comment on the related research. The third part is the research design; it first proposes the concept model of study and set out the theoretical basis according to related literature; then introduces questionnaire design process; then explains research examinee and sample situation. The fourth part is the data analysis, which analysis the sample data by descriptive statistical analysis, validity and reliability analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and variance analysis. The fifth part is the discussion, which discuss the results of empirical analysis. The sixth part divided into conclusions and suggestions, through the data analysis of this research, we present our conclusions, and put forward the corresponding proposal in the light of some problems in the study.Through the empirical analysis, we draw the following conclusion mainly:First, the undergraduate academic engagement including active engagement and passive engagement, in which, active engagement including four dimensions:advance engagement, task engagement, feedback engagement, expanding engagement; Passive engagement including three dimensions:escape engagement, reverse engagement, non-moral engagement.Second, the main correlativity in the study is as follows:there is a significant positive correlation between undergraduate expectancy-value and academic engagement; there is a significant positive correlation also between undergraduate academic engagement and learning effects.Third, in this study the relationship on prediction between variables are as follows: Undergraduate expectancy-value is a positive predictor to academic engagement; Undergraduate academic engagement is a positive predictor to learning effects.Fourth, college students’ basic attribute and teachers’basic attribute have different degrees of influence to the expectancy-value, academic engagement, learning effect and all dimensions.Fifth, through the correlation analysis, regression analysis, variance analysis, the most research hypotheses proposed in this study are completely or partly supported by results of data analysis, this shows that the research model has a universal applicability in certain degree.
