As higher education moves from the scale expansion to the connotation promotion,the issue of education quality has become the focus of higher education research field.The key to university education is student-centered learning rather than teacher-centered teaching,and its fundamental purpose is to promote student learning and development.Students as the main body of learning activities,students' learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievement in their learning process must be paid attention to.Based on self-determination theory and learning engagement theory,this paper conducted a research with learning motivation as an independent variable,learning engagement as the median variable,and academic achievement as the outcome variable to try to reveal and verify the relationships between and among learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievement,using literature analysis,questionnaire survey,statistical analysis and case study method.The aim of the research is to explore the path for enhancing college students' academic achievement and promoting students growth and development.According to the research needs,the learning motivation and learning engagement scales were developed based on the existing mature questionnaires.The questionnaire survey was conducted on the undergraduate graduates from A University in 2019,and the data of the four-year academic achievements of the students participating in the questionnaire survey were tracked from a course management system.The overall situation and individual differences of undergraduates' learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievement were investigated with descriptive statistical and differential analyses,and the relationships between and among learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievement were studied with correlation and regression analyses.From the statistical analysis of the related data,the following conclusions are reached:(1)The learning motivation of undergraduates in A university is at a upper-middle level,and the differences are significant in gender,home location and first generation of college students;(2)The learning engagement of undergraduate students in A university is at the lower middle level,and the differences are significant in subject,family background,first-generation college students and first voluntary admissions;(3)The academic achievement of undergraduates in A university is at the upper-middle level,and the differences are significant in gender and discipline;(4)The learning motivation,learning engagement,and academic achievement are significantly related to each other.In addition,learning motivation has a significant positive effect on learning engagement and academic achievement,and learning engagement has a significant positive effect on academic achievement.(5)Learning engagement plays a partial intermediary role between learning motivation and academic achievement.To improve college students' academic performance and to promote their academic development,some suggestions are proposed based on the above research results.(1)Inspire college students' learning motivation and arouse their enthusiasm to learn;(2)Increase college students' learning engagement and enhance their participation in learning;(3)Respect individual background differences and provide students personalized help.
