With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, the demand formineral resources gradually increased because of economic development and there aremore and higher requirements for the service function of the geological work.Nowadays’ high class education has transited to a "popular" education situation fromthe "elite" education in the past because enrollment increased. The "popular"education emphasized “the wide caliber” and cultivating general talents.theknowledge of students absolutely has broadened, however for engineering majoredstudents, they lack a solid foundation of professional skills, which is difficult to meetthe demand of geological industry.“Education and Training Program of Excellenceengineers “corresponded to the call of the engineering education reform, andadvocated paying attention to practice again. Therefore, it is necessary to explore thetraining mode to geological the frontline talents from the perspective of the Educationand Training Program of Excellence engineers.This article took the method of consulting “shortage talents project by theMinistry of Land and Human Resources Center of Geology and Mineral Resources ",“Geology and Mineral Resources Yearbook" and "China Land and ResourcesStatistical Yearbook literature” to sum up the current situation of the geologicalfront-line team, including the size, personnel structure, problems and reasons.This thesis applied Quantitative and qualitative method to conduct a comparisonof education program between popular education and "elite" education in the past.This thesis put out a comparison between the education program of mass educationand that of the elite education in order to highlight the characteristics of masseducation that is putting less emphasize on major orientation. It intended to explore afront-line personnel training mode from the perspective of “Education and trainingprograms on excellence engineers” to alleviate the urgency of the Geologicalfront-line personnel training. At the same time, the conclusions of this study will be ofsignificance to the related professional skills training.This paper suggested a new mode should be implemented that is the innovative and practical integration of "professionals" and "generalist" education modes. Itincluded the following aspects: First, colleges and enterprises cooperative training;Second, the combination of both external and on-the-job training full-time teachingFaculty; Fourth, the "2.5+0.5+1", new academic structure arrangements. At last, theappropriate safeguards measurements were gave out,in four aspects including:organization measurements, institution measurements and funds measurements.
