One of the important standards measuring the middle school students’ Chineselearning level is the student’s writing ability. So the composition teaching has a pivotalposition in the Chinese subject teaching, even in the whole Chinese teaching system. Astudent’s writing ability is an integrated embodiment of his Chinese accomplishmentand Chinese ability. However, reviewing our current Chinese composition teaching inmiddle school, there still exists many problems in composition teaching. In compositionwriting class, although teacher has taught the writing method, students still do not knowhow to deal with it. Rich writing theories and students’ embarrassing writing processare like two parallel lines, which lie in our midst, but we can’t let them intersect. Inrecent years, with the deepening of new curriculum reform, we are more and moreaware of the necessity of exchange and talk to Chinese educators.Like Ye Shengtao and Zhu Ziqing, Xia Mianzun possesses equally importantposition in the history of modern Chinese education.He has devoted to Chineseeducation research for nearly40years and left us rich language teaching theories andwritings. In the long-term language education theory research and practice, heannounced a series of correct and profound understandings and insights in all aspects oflanguage education from different angles, thus forming his Chinese educationideas,which are full of distinct era characteristics and national features as well ascreativity, especially the theories in the composition teaching which still flash the lightof wisdom today.In the long-term teaching practice, Xia Mianzun inherited the essence of traditionalcomposition teaching thought and based on the practical teaching, he has formed a newcomposition theory. He has a very profound understanding about the status and theregularity of composition teaching. As a great master of Chinese language education,Xia Mianzun always thinks accrording to teaching and student’s actual situation and heproposes that in the writing teaching much attention should paid to the cultivation of student’s personality. The relationship between reading and writing should be delt withwell. He also points out that a good way to practise the writing is to begin with the easyessay, which is to establish the "unity" training mode that has opened up a new path inthe combination of theory and practice of composition teaching. Based on reading lotsof the relevant literature, this thesis is mainly focused on Xia Mianzun’s middleschool’s composition teaching thought. By analyzing Xia Mianzun’s middle schoolcomposition teaching thought and exploring the modern value of Xia Mianzun’s middleschool composition teaching thought, it aims to promote the Chinese compositionteaching reform and development.The thesis is divided into three parts: preface, text and epilogue. Body part consistsof four chapters.Introduction provides an overview of the writing purpose and states the status quoof Xia Mianzun’s middle school composition teaching.The body part: an overview of Xia Mianzun’s middle school composition teachingthought. It includes the relationship between writing and how to be a good student, therelationship between reading and writing, how to write and on the profound influence ofXia Mianzun’s composition teaching thought and its enlightenment to the currentcomposition teaching.Epilogue: a comprehensive overview of the value of Xia Mianzun’s middle schoolcomposition teaching thought and its research significance.
