| Innovation and entrepreneurship is one of the epochal themes in the21stcentury. Sincethe late20thcentury, university entrepreneurship education has become an important trend inthe field of higher education worldwide. Owning to the late beginning and a short period ofdevelopment, university entrepreneurship education in China is still at primary stage, withmany problems to be solved. Comparatively, America’s university entrepreneurship educationhas matured, enjoys a leading position in the world and plays an important role in promotingAmerica’s economic growth. Therefore, America’s experience has a great reference value forthe university entrepreneurship education in China. Using the methods of literature researchand comparative study, this paper presents a case study of Stanford University’sentrepreneurship education, a model of university entrepreneurship education in America,summarizes its experience and provides a valuable reference for Chinese universities. Thereare mainly four parts in this study:The first part examines the background and history of Stanford University’sentrepreneurship education. The background research analyzes its external background andinternal background, external background including political, economic, social, andtechnological factors and internal background including factors like educational idea,entrepreneurial culture, students’ need and organizational competitiveness. The historicalstudy reviews significant events in the history of Stanford University’s entrepreneurshipeducation, summarizes its three developmental stages and the process of its perfection.The second part focuses on the study of implementation system and security system ofStanford University’s entrepreneurship. This part studies the implementation system from theaspects of educational idea and objective, curriculum, teaching method and educationalactivity and the security system from the perspectives of organization, policy, funding andquality.The third part presents a case study of Stanford Technology Venture Program(STVP), anentrepreneurship center at Stanford University. This part examines STVP’s educationalobjectives, implementation and its security system and summarizes its four characteristics. The fourth part analyzes and summarizes the existing problems of universityentrepreneurship education in China, proposes relevant suggestions by referring to theexperience of Stanford University’s entrepreneurship education. |
