Energy is the fundamental element of human’s survival and development as well as thematerial basis for the national economy and society development, thus is of great importance forthe development of global economy. At present, energy security has become the focus of the world. Therefore, the aim at seeking a coordinated development between economic growth and energyconsumption through studying the relationship between the two has great theoretical and practicalsignificance. This paper conducts the research from energy economics perspective, using indicator andeconometric analysis, combining with the data, in order to have a depth analysis of the relationbetween economic growth and energy consumption.Main contents and results are as follows:1.This paper studies energy consumption in Ningbo from the perspective of energy intensityand elasticity of energy consumption. Studies have shown that technological progress has becomethe primary reason for the decline of energy intensity, hence, it has possibility to decrease energyintensity from industrial structure adjustment.2.This paper studies the industries development from the perspective of gray correlationdegree of energy consuming structure and economic growth, as well as processing conversionefficiency of Ningbo industries. Studies have shown that in Ningbo, the largest correlation witheconomic growth is coal. The low processing conversion efficiency has mainly contributed to thelaw overall energy processing conversion efficiency in Ningbo.3.This paper analyses the correlation between economic growth and energy consumptionthrough establishing VAR model. Studies have shown that the two have a balanced and mutuallycausal relationship in the long term. But in the short term, there is a one-way causal relationshipbetween the two. i,e. energy consumption will lead to economic growth as a factor of inputs. Theeconomic growth will not definitely enhance the energy consumption.4.This paper uses BP neural network to predict and analyze the energy consumption inNingbo during the Twelfth Five Plan period. Finally, this study proposes the relative policy and recommendations.
