The Transformation Of Resource-based Cities In Shaanxi Province Is Analyzed

Mineral resources are very important non-renewable natural resources. Along with the development and utilization of mineral resources, numerous of mining cities in China have sprung up like mushrooms, Tong chuan city in Shaanxi Province is a typical example. With shrinking reserves of mineral resources, these mining cities are now facing many urban development issues generated by resource depletion and needed urgent transformation. This paper, on the basis of consulting documents and articles both at home and abroad, defines coal resource-oriented city as well as related concepts firstly; Secondly, the paper makes an analysis on problems and the reasons of coal resource-oriented city in China, clarifying that the industrial restructuring is the only way to the coal resource-oriented city’s development. Thirdly, by drawing successful transformation experiences from foreign countries, the paper proposes several transformation principles for these coal resource type cities to follow. By taking Tong chuan city in Shaanxi Province as a specific example, the paper discusses the five aspects of resource-based cities’transformation, providing the corresponding safeguard measures, which to some extent a guide or reference for other coal resource type city in order to achieve successful transformation.
