China’s inter-provincial border-regions is not only a typical area of land use change, but also the key of the convergence to the coordinating of the overall regional development, which faces new development opportunity as well as the risk of being marginalized. The study of the land use changes in spatial and temporal characteristics is benefited to optimize land use patterns in the china’s inner-provincial area and to improve and protect the ecological quality of the environment of provincial border-regions. It is great significance to ensure to coordinate population, resources and environment in the provincial border-regions and advance sustainable development. The study area of this thesis was China’s inter-provincial border-regions. Based on the1980,1995and2000three Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images, the land use information of provincial border-regions was extracted. A variety of mathematical models and GIS of spatial analysis techniques were adopted. It was revealed the spatial and temporal characteristics of land use change in study area from1980to2000.The Markov model was applied in the evaluating land use change of the future development trends in study area. The content of the thesis was briefly summarized as following:1Based on the provincial boundary of administrative region and related principles of definition and selection of inter-provincial border-regions, combined with natural factors, China’s inter-provincial border-regions was divided into four districts, including the northeast district, the southeast district, the Qinghai-Tibet district and the northwest district. The distribution of predominantly class of each district was obtained. The land uses of China’s inter-provincial border-regions were mainly of woodland and grassland. In the Northeast district, there were woodland mainly class of the land use; there were mainly woodland, farmland and grassland area of land use in the southeast district; in the Qinghai-Tibet district, there were mainly grass, which showed a decreasing trend; in the northwest district, there were large areas of unused land, which showed a firstly increased and then decreased situation.2There were existed obvious regional differentiation in land use change in China’s inter-provincial border-regions during the study years. Comparing the period of1980to1995with the period1995to2000, the later exhibited a more marked increase in the amount of land use change and in the annual change rate.3As for the impact of the conditions of natural environmental environment in different regions and the social factors of population growth, economic development, and regional development of policies, the obvious spatial diversity of characteristics in China’s inter-provincial border-regions during the two periods1980-1995and1995-2000were represented each of land use types in the different divisions.4From1980to2000, complex transformation of the type of land use in study area had been showed. From1980to1995, the decreased areas of cultivated land, woodland, grassland, water were greater than the new area, but the reduced areas were less than those of the new area of industrial, mining and residential land and unused land; however, there was a similar situation from1995to2000.5The Markov model was applied in the evaluating land use in2010and2020, which the development trend of land use in the future would be analyzed.
