Studies Of Eco-Transformation Of Jiaozuo, A City Of Resource Exhausted Type (CRET)

The traditional economic growth mode, which is to manufacture first, and to control second, always makes resources in cities of resource exhausted type (RET) to be lured away all the time. To be followed is a series of economic and social problems, such as deterioration of the ecological environment as well as resource exhausted. By the way, the social development and stability of the RET cities will be affected badly. For the resource-based cities, especially a city of RET, it is rather urgent that urban transformation be completed. Obviously, there are some effective approaches to complete the urban transformation, such as eliminating resource restrict, restoring a fine ecological environment, and realizing the resource-based city sustainable development, and so on.The thesis adopts research methods of document retrieval, combination of analysis and empirical analysis. The paper consists of five sections. The first section is about comments of theories and practice of resource-based cities at home and abroad. The second section is to discuss theory bases of urban transformation for resource-based cities; meantime, puts forth eco-transformation experiences of two RET cities, Fuxin and Guiyang. In the third section, through recalling urban development history of Jiaozuo city, the paper analyses urban industrial structure and urban space structure of Jiaozuo. Also, the paper shows that resource exploration and application was the main driving force for urban development at the time of Jiaozuo’s foundation and its primitive time. But latter, resource exploitation had been the main restrictive power holding back the urban development. The thesis here thinks that the ecological transformation should be so necessary. The fourth section makes an initial discussion about the urban ecological transformation of Jiaozuo. By comparison of index system for ecological cities designated by State Environment Protection Administration with the development situation of Jiaozuo city nowadays, the thesis thinks that ecological transformation of Jiaozuo City is a hard job. And it is essential steps that optimizing urban space structure and industrial structure, improving the urban environment comprehensively, and upgrading urban cultural connotation. By these ways, the ecological transformation can be realized completely and successfully.
