With the improvement of people’s living standards, market demands for paper and paper products is increasing dramatically and China has become the trading nations of the world’s paper and paper products, which in2005paper and paper products had exported more than imported and continued to maintain trade surplus with a sound development. However, paper and paper products in China is not high on the international market, as the international market share index is not on top among other countries. In the meantime, China still holds a huge export potential which will lead to a possible higher growth. This thesis analyses the trade status of paper and paper products in China nowadays and the trade gravity model is used to examine the main factors of the China’s paper and paper products export trade flows change. Then, using a constant market share model to figure out the change of exports in the major markets of paper and paper products. The result indicates that pull and enhanced competitiveness of the international market are the main promoters of the export of paper and paper products. Because the competitiveness calculating from the constant market share model is not accurate according to the traditional definition, thus surveying a series of international competitiveness evaluation index to measure China’s paper and paper products’ real international competitiveness. At last, this thesis proposes some suggestions that design to help our paper and paper products in the future development to avoid various unfavorable factors while continue to make optimum use of the positive factors and enhance international competitiveness for the further possible expanding exports in the future.
