The Reconstruction Of Urban Regional Function Under The Conditions Of Metropolitan Area

Since cities came into being, its special scale continues to expand, so does its layout on the whole. With the constant development of cities, a new Urban Spatial Morphology Metropolitan Area begins to show its appearance. Under this condition, the center city is integrated with the surrounding areas in certain range, between which, a closer economic and social relation is established. The advent of metropolitan area reveals the transformation of cities from individuals to regional areas. With this shift as the background, the so called urban function is no longer the function exercised by a single city but a series of functions enjoyed by the overall metropolitan area. To achieve a perfect and high-efficiency integration of all urban functions, and form a complete functional region as a distribution center, there is an urgent need to reconstruct urban functions of cities at all levels.Metropolitan Areas, in the future, is about to play a major role in regional competition and cooperation. Chengdu, which has completed its shift from an individual city into a metropolis, needs to reconstruct the regional functions of all its towns and cities at all levels based on its own resource natural endowment and social division of labors.This dissertation focuses on the reconstruction of cities at all levels in Chengdu as a metropolitan area in the following sections:The first part mainly discusses the background, significance, and methods of the research, etc.;The second part mainly introduces some theories and ideas about the reconstruction of regional functions, such as the idea of organic distribution, the function-structure dynamic law and so forth, in addition to the summary and analysis on the regional function reconstruction practices in other cities;The third part mainly analyzes the process of function overflow in central Chengdu as a metropolis, summarizes the problems existed during the reconstruction of regional functions;The forth part summarizes the similarities and rules demonstrated in the regional function reconstruction of Chengdu as well as many other metropolises. And finally, some suggestions are presented for the regional function reconstruction of Chengdu.
