Research On Strategies Of Succession And Substitution Of Resource Industries In Pingdingshan City

Resource-based cities are a kind of special categories in the urban system in China,which are not only of a large number, but also have made tremendous andirreplaceable contributions for the economic construction in China’s economic developmentprocess. Due to the need of economic development, most of resource-based cities in ourcountry develop and grow gradually based on the exploitation of their abundantnon-renewable resources. Resource-based industries are the economic pillar in resource-basedcities’ development. However, as the non-renew ability of non-renewable resources and thelife cycle of the industrial development, if resource-based industries do not carry outsuccession and substitution development timely in the mature period, they will die inevitablywith the resources’ exhaustion, and then lead to a result of "no city, no mine ". This rule isuniversal in the development of resource-based cities and resource-based industries. Therefore,in the research of resource-based cities, the transformation of resource-based industries hasbecome a hot topic in recent years. However, for every resource-based city andresource-based industry, because of the different natural resources, locations and culturalcharacteristics, and as well the different stages of development, the specific circumstances andparticularities, we need to carry out specific analysis to specific situations. This paper selectsPingdingshan city which is the first large-scale mining constructed by New China as theresearch subject has a certain representation.In the first chapter, this article introduces the background and meaning comparativelyanalyzes the research about the succession and substitution of resource-based industries at homeand abroad, and then summarizes the content, method, route and main innovation points. On thebasis of research of concepts about succession and substitution of resource-based industries,Chapter II introduces three basic theories of the sustainable development, the industrial transformationand the life cycle. Chapter III makes research on the status and issues of resource-based industries inPingdingshan city. And the main industries in Pingdingshan city are divided into resource-based industriesand non-resource-based industries, which are analyzed separately. Based on the previous analysis andthe specific characteristics of resource-based industries in Pingdingshan city, the fourth chapter builds amodel and uses factor analysis to identify the five industries which have the largest supporting effects to theeconomic development of Pingdingshan city at present. On the basis of the previous studies andusing the theoretical knowledge, Chapter V concludes that the resource-based industries of Pingdingshancity are going through the mature period at the present time, which is the conclusion comes fromthe golden age of succession and substitution of resource-based industries. According to thegeneral rules of the evolution of industrial structures, Chapter VI respectively puts forward the directionsand key points about the succession and substitution of resource-based industries of Pingdingshancity from now on, and combining with the current situation of Pingdingshan city, analyzes the safeguardmeasures of the development of succession industries and substitution industries. The maininnovations of this paper are to use factor analysis to build a model, analyze which industries ofresource-based industries in Pingdingshan city play a major supporting role at present, and make aconclusion that the pillar industries at this stage in Pingdingshan city are the initial stage resource-basedindustries.
