The technological endeavor of the food industry is distorted by all-out business competitiontowards its malicious end, aggravated by loose management and missing consciousness, whichbred nationwide food safety crises that severely frustrated the public. All these have raised thecalling of the society for the ethics and morality of people serving in food industry, as well as theinquiries of researchers on the mechanism of this vicious circle, the cause of ethics and moralitylapses of the food industry, and the way of establishing a healthy, green and mature food marketand the order of society.In this article, the author states his opinions in three sections. In Section I, he introduces thecurrent progresses of researchers from home and abroad in this field, and briefly defines thebearings of the concepts of food safety accident, ethics of science and technology and moralstandard.In Section II, the author invokes cases of food safety accidents in recent years to generatethe food safety profile in China plus its features, and points out the damages of food safetyaccident to individuals and the social morality; He also makes practical analyses on the causes ofthese accidents, as well as those of the moral hazard along the whole supply chain of foodindustry, which, as he concludes, are the cut-throat competition and the technological gap amongfood enterprises that trigger the moral polarization of food industry.In Section III, the author digs further into the issues of scientific and technological ethics infood industry from the perspectives of utilitarianism, deontology and the justice of distribution,etc. The author ends his expatiation by bringing forth the urgency and necessity of theestablishment of scientific and technological ethics. The government shall perform guidance tothe development of science and technology to support green technologies through mainstreamscientists to regulate the utilization of scientific findings in food industry. Food enterpriseemployees shall be subject to moral trainings before work. Healthy food shall be promoted to thepublic. And finally, the ethics and morality must be institutionalized in Chinese food industryunder the protection and support of the government.
