Citrus is a major economic crop in Hubei province, which is ranked the fourth place of citrus industry among all the areas of the country. The rapidly developing citrus industry has played a positive role of the local economic development in rural areas, which is increasing exports and improving the income of the farmers. As the rapid growth of the nationwide citrus’ production, the competition will become even more serious. Hubei citrus industry is facing a big challenge from international and domestic markets stern. The research was based on the theory of comparative advantage and competitive advantage, applying economics, agricultural economics, industry economics and citrus principles, by the means of combination of macro-analysis with micro-analysis, combination of quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis as well as comparative analysis method and model to analyze the factors affect the competitiveness of citrus industry in the hope of providing reference for relative department. The main results are as follows:1Hubei province is one of the origins of Citrus in China, which has a long history of cultivation and a deep citrus culture. It is located in the middle and lower reaches of Changjiang River and the central hinterland, known as "the thoroughfare leading to nine provinces and the southwest portal" from ancient to modern times, which connects the East and West, North and South. Wuhan is designated as the center city of China.2Based on its appropriate climate, soil conditions, various resources and low-cost labor force, Hubei province can be labeled as the high-grade area to develop citrus industry.3For the same production, the Market competitiveness is actually decided by two aspects:the production costs and the marketing effect.4The paper use15indexes contains yield, output value,land cost, average price, commodity rate and so on to compare and analyze the industrial competitiveness and also adopt the principal component analysis method to get the provincial rank. The competition ability of Hubei province is relatively weak in citrus industry.5The main factors that affect the improvement of competitiveness are:the poor brand effect, the small production scale, the low industrialization rate, the rising production cost, the insufficient high quality seedling production capacity, unreasonable variety and maturity structure.6From the point of view of Citrus marketing competitiveness, the main factors includes:the low production value, market price and net profit; the high cost of marketing, market demand. Besides, the low quality can not meet the market demand of citrus and the information mechanism is too weak to reflect the changes in the market and demand.7The principle that should be adhere to:insist on being guided by the market, as to make full use of the basic role that the market played in the allocation of resources,adhere to the area reasonable division of labor in accordance with the relevant requirements of the national major function area planning, establish a new pattern of reasonable industrial division of labor and complete industrial system based on local resource endowment under the guidance of the overall construction; Based on advantages of varieties and advantages of regional infrastructure, draw on the experience of developed countries, promote industrial clustering and upgrading to plan as a whole development. Coordinate capital, technology, talent and all various resources to establish a mechanism of clear division of labor and coordinate action. Stable and perfect the Land contracts relation to arouse the farmer’s enthusiasm.8The strategy that enhance the industrial competitiveness of Hubei province:in terms of productivity, improve the yield per unit area, ensure the fruit quality, enhance the science and technology; in terms of marketing competitiveness, information collection work and market management construction should be strengthened, the flow of system and the construction of marketing team also need enhanced, in terms of the competitiveness of brand, the propaganda should be enlarged, and much more bibcock enterprise enquire expanding.
