With the advent of knowledge economy era, it means that knowledge will be thedecisive factor for enterprises’ comparative advantages, so the importance ofknowledge workers has become more prominent, and employing high qualityknowledge workers is the necessary condition and security for enterprises to succeed.However, knowledge workers are different from normal works; they have their owncharacteristics and needs. Some enterprises haven’t realized this, and use kinds ofmotivational methods blindly, which can’t meet knowledge workers’ needs, risingmanagement cost or high staff drain rate. Therefore it is necessary to study deeply onmotivation of knowledge workers in enterprises. How to motivate knowledge workersto enhance their enthusiasm and creativity has been the core issue of sustainabledevelopment for enterprises.This paper inherits and absorbs relative research results in and abroad, on thebasic of knowledge workers motivation theories. It takes knowledge workers’ needsas a starting point, and summarizes three main needs, by comparing relativemotivation theories. Then analyze three demand characteristics of knowledge workers,and study different motivation strategies of knowledge workers in different levels,according to the research results. This paper is totally six parts. In preface, the authorbriefly introduces the background, meaning, research conditions in and abroad,research methods, and creativity of this paper. In the second chapter, the authorintroduces theoretical study of this paper, including knowledge workers, motivationand demand theories. In the third chapter, the author analyzes the needs of knowledgeworkers, including the hierarchy of needs, analysis of demands in different levels, andthe needs model of knowledge workers’ needs factors. In the fourth chapter, theauthor makes empirical analysis of knowledge workers’ demand factor byquestionnaire. In the fifth chapter, the author raises different motivation strategies ofknowledge workers in different levels, according to the research results of chapterfour. In the last chapter, the author comes to the conclusion, analyzed excitingproblems,and have a later concluded outlook.Through theoretical and empirical analysis, this paper reaches the following conclusions. First, the paper begins with the needs of knowledge workers andsummarizes three main needs by comparing relative motivation theories, that is to say,basic needs, relation needs, and value needs. And then analyze three demandcharacteristics of knowledge workers. Second, based on the statistical analysis ofsurvey questionnaire, the author finds out the characteristics of different knowledgeworkers and the problems of motivation in enterprises. Third, the author raisesdifferent motivation strategies of knowledge workers in different levels, according tothe research results. For knowledge workers in basic needs level, the motivationstrategies are compensation motivation, welfare motivation and EAP motivation. Forknowledge workers in relation needs level, the motivation strategies are emotionmotivation, communication motivation, participation motivation and culturemotivation. For knowledge workers in value needs level, the motivation strategies arehonor motivation, authorization motivation, target motivation and train motivation.
