This thesis focuses on the motivation of knowledge workers in enterprises, which belongs to the frontier of human recourse management. At present, domestic and overseas schools’ study is in the phrase of empirical study. Though there are a large amount of data and analyze, practical model has not been worked out. On the other hand, more and more enterprises are facing serious challenge on knowledge worker management. So it is the first thing for executives in the knowledge economy era to manage knowledge workers, understand their requirements and motivate them effectively.Facing the need of schools and executives, this paper uses methods of system, logic, comparation and analysis to study motivation of knowledge workers in enterprises. Firstly, this paper introduces the definition, characteristics and classification of knowledge workers, then points out that the motivation of knowledge workers must be based on the characteristics of its targeted implementation; meanwhile, recalling predecessors’ motivation theory, as the base of studying motivation theory of knowledge workers. Secondly, this article analyses the current situation and deficiencies in the motivation management and the motivation of knowledge workers, which is the beginning of the study of the knowledge worker motivation theory. Thirdly, based on the analysis of the above, I device the knowledge worker motivation model and analyze factors and mechanism of salary motivation and non-salary motivation of knowledge workers. Lastly, this paper proposes the motivation strategy of knowledge workers in order to improve the motivation management in enterprise.In this paper the main achievements and innovative points is the knowledge worker motivation model. This model uses internal consistency and external competitiveness as its principle and views contribution as its basis. Starting from simple motivation model, gradually add psychological factors and performance evaluation to make model more realistic. By modeling and motivation target setting, the paper reduces the knowledge worker motivation factors to salary motivation factors and non-salary motivation factors, and correspondingly research salary motivation and non-salary motivation mechanism’s the role and the way.
