China's Wind Power Industry Competitiveness Analysis

The wind power industry has been growing extremely fast in clean energy industries inrecent years. The national wind power installed capacity has been grown more than10times in the past five years. The wind power industry develop so rapidly, but how itsindustrial in China? This is the main contents of this paper. At the beginning of the paper, Ichoose the right competitiveness analysis model for the paper according to characteristicsof the wind power industry. The final choice is the Porter’s Five Forces Analysis model butcoupled with two influencing factors which the changes in market demand and the nationalindustrial policy.The analytical framework of this paper include seven factors which affecting thecompetitiveness of wind power industry. The seven factors will be divided into threedimensions and policy factors. Dimension of the industry chain include the Negotiatingcapacity of equipment manufacturers, owners of wind power resources, as well as thepower grid companies. Dimension of market include market supply situation, the state ofcompetition in the industry and the competitiveness of the alternatives. Dimension of timeinclude changes in demand in the future and the treat of potential entrants. In the analysisprocess of each dimension, I will present the analysis of impact of the policy factor onother factors.Finally, I have found out the adverse effects of the wind power industry by thecompetitive analysis process and I propose countermeasures for increasing in thecompetitiveness of the wind power industry according to the adverse effects. Thecountermeasures include the development of the industry as well as national industrialpolicy.
