| Traditional village is not only a place which takes natural environment asthe natural background and human landscape as the material carrier, but also aplace which makes villagers form the common sense of identity and belongingin the long history of the development and evolution process. Mirroring thetraditional feature and local characteristics, the traditional village is ofsignificance on history, art and science. In a sense, it is the synthesizer oftraditional culture as well as typical cultural space.The development of tourism in the village is a feasible way to revive andextend the cultural space. However, the contradiction between the tourismdevelopment and the cultural space protection becomes gradually prominent.The traditional culture in the village appears cultural assimilation andvariation in the process of inheritage and innovation. The reservation andpassing on of village culture has become a hot topic in the background oftourism. Based on the collection and summary of literatures in this field aswell as utilizing cultural space as the entry point, this paper probes into thecomponents and formation of cultural space. Furthermore, with a view to thecreativity and initiative of people, this paper researches the influences oftourism on the village cultural space.The researched field-Pei Tian village located in the hakka area of westernFujian Province is an ancient village with about800-year history and densecultural atmosphere. Being developed nearly10years, the impacts brought bytourism has permeated into all aspects of the villagers’ daily life. Theseprovide the practical conditions to have a comprehensive study. Integration ofparticipant observation and deep interview, this paper not only reflects kindsof influences which are brought into material space, mental space as well asconscious space, but also proposes methods to rebuild the cultural space inorder to achieve the win-win situation which is benefit to development of both cultural protection and tourism industry. |
