With the coming of knowledge economy, the acceleration of China’s urbanization andvigorous development of construction, as well as various new types of contracting models ofmodern large-scale construction general contract firm, and the emergence of new types ofbuildings to satisfy people’s special function, the challenge to knowledge management ofconstruction field is proposed. More and more construction general firms have realized theimportance of knowledge resources. The emergence of knowledge gap is a real problem thatany business cannot avoid, and more construction general firms have been aware of the largerknowledge gaps existed in their businesses. Knowledge gap have a serious impact on the corecompetition of China’s modern large construction general contract firms. Therefore, how toeffectively evaluate the current situation and strategic planning to their knowledge gap, and topropose a scientific knowledge gap compensation strategies are one of the problems formodern construction general firms to solve.This paper based on the historical background of knowledge economy, combined withChina’s construction general contract firm status, aimed at the unclear status of knowledgegap of China’s large construction general contract firm, and according to the operating modeland market competition factors of construction general contract firm, China’s constructiongeneral contract firm’s knowledge gap is defined and classified, and knowledge gapevaluation of construction general contract firm is established and scientifically evaluated.From the knowledge management and knowledge sharing perspective, knowledge gapcompensation strategies of construction general contract firm are further put forward, so thatChina’s construction general contract firm can comply with the knowledge economy times,show its stronger core competitiveness in domestic and international arena, and also provide acertain scientific basis for construction general firm to solve the knowledge gap. Theinnovations of this paper are mainly embodied in the following aspects.(1)Knowledge gap theory is introduced into the practice of construction generalcontract business management. On the basis of theory innovation and by the combination ofknowledge gap theory and construction professional knowledge, knowledge gap in China’s large construction general contract firm is defined and classified.(2)The combination of qualitative and quantitative. On the basis of definition andclassifications of the knowledge gap existed in construction general contract firm, theknowledge gap evaluation model of construction general contract firm is constructed, and itsapplicability is also analyzed through cases. Knowledge gap at one stage of China’sconstruction general contract firm is scientifically evaluated, which provides investors with ascientific basis for decision making.(3)The corresponding knowledge gap compensation strategies are formulated to thedifferent types of knowledge, that is, the corresponding knowledge gap types are made up forthrough such modes as learning, sharing and innovation, trading and transmission, so thatknowledge gap of construction general contract firm is became a system with the combinationfrom definition and classification to evaluation, and it also has a certain reference meaning forconstruction general contract firm to adapt the new era.
